Do you want to be an elf? Elves live far longer, and are better at pretty much everything. They're vastly more graceful, they're beautiful and surround themselves with beauty, they're keepers of wisdom, they're renowned healers, and they have magic powers (within limits). Why on earth would anyone choose not to be an elf?
